Emirates NBD has introduced a sustainability-focused accelerator program and is inviting global green fintech companies to collaborate on creating innovative financial solutions and processes with a sustainability theme.

This SustainTech Accelerator Program, with support from Microsoft, aims to facilitate the focused advancement of sustainability initiatives.

Running from September 6th to October 10th, the accelerator program will assist technology startups in developing solutions and tools that can enhance Emirates NBD’s sustainability performance. This includes providing access to accurate and standardized data, reliable indicators for measuring sustainable contributions, advanced risk management tools, solutions for transitioning legacy systems to sustainability, assistance in navigating regulatory complexities, and independent verification and certification services to enhance the credibility of sustainability claims.

Selected fintech companies will be given the opportunity to present their solutions in four key areas:

  1. Enhancing sustainability in finance by tracking emissions across all three scopes comprehensively.
  2. Developing climate risk models to bolster financial resilience.
  3. Introducing innovative carbon trading solutions for banks.
  4. Advancing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) risk assessment solutions to pioneer sustainable business practices.

Emirates NBD is aligned with COP28 and the UAE’s sustainability goals. Vijay Bains, group chief sustainability officer and group head of ESG at Emirates NBD, expressed their commitment to supporting the UAE’s Year of Sustainability and COP28 and their enthusiasm for launching the SustainTech Accelerator program to discover promising sustainable products and solutions from around the world.

He emphasized the bank’s belief that environmental consciousness is a potent force for reshaping the financial landscape and that programs like this one, which combine innovation with responsibility, can improve the lives of people, customers, and communities.

Naim Yazbeck, general manager of Microsoft UAE, highlighted their collaboration with Emirates NBD on the SustainTech Accelerator Program, aligning with the UAE’s sustainability commitments. This partnership aims to empower fintechs with cutting-edge technologies to create innovative solutions that help organizations understand and reduce their environmental impact as the UAE prepares to host COP28 and address climate change challenges.
